Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at meowdoganimalrescue@gmail.com or use the chat feature on our website if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Meowdog is a hands-on, student-supported rescue that partners with the Lucy G. Beckham High School's veterinary science program. This gives our animals a unique experience—they aren’t just cared for, they’re well-socialized in lots of environments. Our students safely handle the pets, introducing them to new people, other animals, and different settings. This helps our animals feel confident and comfortable, which makes them more ready for life in their forever homes.

We’d love to introduce you! Just fill out our Meet & Greet Form, and once it’s approved, we’ll reach out to schedule a time to meet the animal.

Yes! After your Meet & Greet Form is approved, we can work with you to make the visit safe and comfortable for everyone.

Unfortunately, we are unable to hold animals because every space in our rescue is a chance to save a life. That said, if you've adopted and need care while you're out of town, we can recommend some excellent, trusted boarding facilities and pet sitters.

  1. Fill out the Meet & Greet Form online. (Please allow up to 72 hours for processing—we’re all volunteers!)
  2. Once approved, we’ll schedule a time for you to meet the animal.
  3. If it’s the right fit, you’ll sign an adoption contract and pay the adoption fee to make it official.

Yes, but we try to place animals as quickly as possible to open up space for more pets in need. If there are multiple applications for the same animal, we ask for a decision within 24 hours.

Dogs: $550

Cats: $250

This covers:

  • Spay/neuter
  • Vaccines
  • Dewormer
  • Microchip
  • First month of flea & heartworm prevention
  • Any medical care needed to ensure your pet is healthy
  • Food, supplies, and the care we provide to help you understand your pet’s personality

Some pets, especially those with medical needs, cost more than the adoption fee. We don’t make a profit—our goal is to cover the real cost of care and save as many animals as possible.

Meowdog doesn’t receive government funding—we rely on donations, adoption fees, and veterinary discounts. Adoption fees cover surgeries, vaccines, medications, food, and supplies, and sometimes don’t even cover the cost of pets with extra medical needs.

We completely understand the fee can feel high, but it reflects the real cost of giving an animal a healthy start in life. If you’d like to help offset costs, donations are always welcome through our Donations Page, Chewy, or Amazon wishlists.

Our animals are well-socialized and confident. We spend time helping them feel at ease in a variety of settings—around other animals, children, and adults. Because of this, adopters often find the transition to a forever home easier, and the pets are ready to thrive in their new families.

Adoption fees are nonrefundable, because they help cover the care the animal has already received. By adopting, you’re committing to a lifetime of care. If challenges come up, we’re here to support you before rehoming becomes necessary.

You must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Own or rent a home/apartment/condo (renters need landlord approval)
  • Provide veterinary references for any current pets
  • Provide a personal reference
  • Be open to a home check or photos of the area your pet will live in

Adult pets may have had rough starts or multiple homes. We offer a Foster-to-Adopt trial period of up to one week so you can make sure it’s the right fit before finalizing the adoption.

Yes! Fosters are a huge part of what we do. We provide all supplies, and you provide love and attention. Fostering helps us save more lives and is a rewarding way to help animals in your community. Fill out a Foster Application, and we’ll get in touch.

We make our best guess based on appearance and traits, but we don’t offer DNA testing. If you test after adoption, we’d love to hear what you find!

We don’t take public surrenders. We can only take back animals adopted through Meowdog, and only after exploring all training and support options. If you’re struggling, we encourage using social networks to find a responsible new home.

Yes! Donations help us cover medical care, supplies, and more. You can give directly through our Donations Page, or send supplies via our Chewy and Amazon wishlists.
